Community Engagement Co-ordinator (Undergraduate and Teaching)

Restructured position from Teaching Grid Co-ordinator.
  • Delivering skills development and well-being support for undergraduates and teachers as well as initiatives to foster a sense of belonging amongst community members.
  • Skills development covers a variety of skills to assist with day-to-day academic life and employability (information skills and digital skills).
  • Wellbeing support also covers skills for long-term resilience as well as stress-busting activities (from origami to yoga).
  • Induction and student-led cultural events (celebrating national days from Chinese New to Shakespeare's birthday).
  • Increasing community engagement through the Window on Teaching program of workshops to disseminate best practice in teaching.
  • Line managing three staff members and supervising a further four staff members.
  • Engaging with the teaching community to increase service usage, guide service development, disseminate best practice and encourage continuing professional development.
Teaching Grid Coordinator

  • Redeveloped the Warwick Innovative Teaching database, greatly increasing usability and use. I took the database from virtually no usage to 633 hits/month (internal staff only).
  • Designed and implemented a bespoke Seamless Classroom (interactive classroom) to improve student experience and prototype new pedagogical possibilities.
  • Coordinating the day-to-day operations of the Teaching Grid in the library including an Experimental Teaching Space, Collaboration Area and a number of physical and digital services.
  • Increasing community engagement through the Window on Teaching program of workshops to disseminate best practice in teaching. Increased number of subscribed internal staff members by 62%.
  • Managing four staff members and a handful of temporary staff.

Senior Youth Worker
Forest of Arden Youth for Christ

Directed the work of the charity, providing vision, leadership, training, support and frontline delivery.

  • Managed two paid workers and a handful of volunteers.
  • Worked with churches, other charities and the council to deliver youth services primarily to the 11-25 age-range.
  • The majority of work was undertaken in the school context (both secondary and primary) with assemblies, RE lessons, youth groups and detached work.
File Preparation Administrator

Administered the process of converting the council’s paper-based personnel files into a digital system available over the internet.

The team of administrators collected, catalogued, tracked, sorted and quality assured the files as well as being a point of contact for council workers using the system.

Governor Support Officer
Reading Borough Council

Assisted the senior manager of governor services, overseeing the administration of the governing bodies of state schools in the area.

The role initially involved the correcting and updating of the database of all governors and governing bodies but soon branched out into other tasks such as administrating a training course and responding to governors’ queries.

Parish Youth Worker
PCC of St Agnes and St Paul churches, Reading

Responsible for the pastoral care and representation of the youth in two Church of England parishes on an estate in south Reading.

The role involved organising, planning and running events for both the churched and unchurched youth, leading a team of voluntary youth workers, reporting to the PCC and youth sub-committee on local youth matters and taking an active role in Sunday services at the churches.

The regular events under my responsibility included an open-door youth group, an alternative to the Sunday morning sermon, a church-based youth group and a weekly football game.

Relay Student Worker
University and Colleges Christian Fellowship

A training and discipleship year working with the Christian Union at Reading University.

This included studying theology, public speaking, meeting students one-to-one and supporting the Christian Union in their activities.
